Hi, I’m Karoline, the founder of Style by Laursen.
My interest in style developed at an early age. Born and raised in Denmark, some of my earliest and strongest memories involve clothes. I remember sewing on a sewing machine with my great aunt and mainly caring about dressing my dolls instead of playing with them. My first big fashion turning point happened at 13 years old, when a shop assistant helped me put together an outfit for an occasion. Up until this point, I was very shy and typically wore a blue zip-up hoodie. I used to gaze into the shop windows and dream of wearing the cool clothes, but my shyness made me worry what my classmates would say if I looked different. However, with the occasion nearing, my desire for wanting to dress like me had beat my shyness. The shop assistant helped me find an outfit that truly felt like me. The feelings I felt when looking in the mirror were so impactful that I respectfully hung my blue hoodie and my obsession with fashion and style took off. I started experimenting with my style, reading and taking courses.
I moved to Scotland at the age of 19 to study fashion design at university but quickly realised my real interest was fashion’s impact on people and society rather than design. I made a brave decision, changed my study to economics and dedicated all independent research to understanding exactly that. Alongside my studies, I interned and assisted fashion designers in London and Scotland. After five years in Scotland, I moved to Hamburg where I in parallel to my corporate job emerged myself deeper in the topic of styling. I have completed four certifications in personal styling across womenswear, menswear and colour analysis from the London College of Fashion and the Style ME Training Academy London. I have assisted stylists and even worked briefly as an ecommerce stylist.
The red thread through it all has always been my interest in the connection between fashion, style and people. I started Style by Laursen to help people unlock the positive powers of personal style to lead empowered and carefree lives. Just like my experience in the store at 13 years old, your clothes should always make you feel good in your own skin and confident to chase your dreams.
